Having a good connection with yourself is a very important aspect of life. And yet it’s not valued enough in today’s world. We aren’t taught to ask ourselves what we want or question the validity of things in life so we can stay connected to ourselves. We are guided to focus on external things most of the time and this is detrimental for our connection to ourselves. We have to live life with ourselves and in our body for the rest of our lives. Being able to think for yourself, setting boundaries, make decisions that you want to make and do what you want to do is important for each individual. It all involves your connection to yourself. And the more connected you are to yourself to happier your life experience will be.

  1. Your Breath

If we want to connect with ourselves in a deep way the first thing that we want to do is to focus on our breath. The breath connects you to yourself, it grounds you, it connects you to the present moment and this connects you to the body, since the body is IN the present moment. When we are out of the present moment we are not aware of ourselves neither are we aware of our bodies. And if we don’t feel the present moment or our bodies then we can’t connect to ourselves from a deeper level.

Practice: All you need to do is simply follow the breath as it comes in and out (how boring as it sounds). You may want to try different breathing exercises, but simply observing the inhales and exhales will do the trick. Using your breath is a simple tool but one of the most effective tools you can apply.

  1. Tracing Sensation

When we want to connect to ourselves then we have to connect to our felt sense. Our felt sense are all the emotions and sensations that are arising within the body (somatic work). When we are able to trace these sensations daily then we are able to deeply connect with ourselves. This may even be the best tool to use for establishing a deeper connection with yourself. When you connect to your body you are also connecting to your subconscious mind, which is bigger than the conscious mind. Your body is merged with your subconscious mind, they work as a unit. When we connect with the body we connect with a bigger part of ourselves that includes the subconscious mind.

Practice: Tune into your body daily. The more often you tune into the felt sense of your experience the deeper you are able to connect to yourself. This practice allows you to clear layers within as we release the stored feelings and this opens up deeper layers of connection and intimacy with ourselves.   1. Connect with the Heart

Of course, we cannot forget to mention the heart. Connecting with the heart is another way to connect to yourself on a very deep level. But if the heart is blocked it’s challenging to connect to it or feel love radiating from it.

When we have a hard time connecting with the heart we first need to work through the layers (the pain) that are arising within us as we try to connect with the heart. This goes hand in hand with somatic work (see previous point). This may take weeks, months or years even. So, don’t be discourage if this feels like a tall task. Be patient while you work on connecting back to the heart and to yourself. The power of the heart is very underestimated. The heart is immensely powerful. The electromagnetic field of the heart is able to reach out very far, more than we can imagine. The heart generates the largest electromagnetic field in the body. And the electromagnetic field of the heart changes with emotions so there is no fixed range.

The love emanating from the heart has an impact on everything. The heart does not only serve to create a deeper connection with yourself but as well as the people around you. People subconsciously or consciously will feel your love towards them and they may even feel how deep you are connected to yourself.

Practice: When connecting with the heart don’t think about it too much or have expectations how it should feel. You simply bring your focus down to your heart and breath with it. Observe whatever arises. Release what needs to be released and tune into your heart more often each day to establish a deeper connection with yourself.  

  1. Disconnect from Technology and get into Nature

If we want to attain a deeper connection with ourselves truly, then we need to disconnect from any technology (especially social media) as much as possible. The frequencies that are being used make us disconnected from ourselves and this also makes it harder to listen to our inner guidance. On top of this when we use social media we are constantly focused on others instead of ourselves. And this does not support a deeper connect with ourselves.

When we go into nature we do create a deeper connection with ourselves. When we take a walk in nature it balances out our energies, it grounds us and it heals us. We even get upgraded from the air we breathe in and by the light that shines down on us.

Nature allows us to connect with ourselves and the more we are in nature the easier it will become. Connecting with nature and with ourselves also takes time depending on how connected or disconnected you feel from nature currently.  

Practice: Reduce using technology as much as possible and stop scrolling through social media. Start by taking a walk at least 20 minutes every day if possible. It does not matter if you live in a city and there are not a lot of trees (if you can’t find more nature even better). The point is to get yourself outside. Try to get yourself outside even if it’s just a moment to take out the trash. If the weather allows it consume your meals outside as often as possible. Over time your connection to nature and yourself will grow and becomes much easier to tune into this connection.

  1. Spiritual Hygiene

Another element that we should not underestimate is having spiritual hygiene. When we have spiritual hygiene, we are able to get to know ourselves better and feel what is ours and what is not.

We think many thoughts a day and we can consider our thoughts as entities. And these entities are hanging around our energy field. If you aren’t aware of this and aren’t clearing yourself from them, you will assume these thoughts are yours. And you will assume you are connected to yourself but you are actually not. This can be a hard one to figure out, but you can become aware of your thoughts and you can question if they are yours. And with anything thing else that you are feeling or when you feel off you can ask the question: ‘is this mine?’ If not say: ‘I return to sender’.

We can also visualize specific colors to clear ourselves from these thought forms by having a spiritual hygiene routine. As you do so you will feel lighter, clear of mind and you will be able to connect with your true self (and your higher self) more easily. 6. Connect with your Sexual Self

Everybody has a sexual self. If we use our sexual energy that runs through us in the right way then it will deepen our connection to our sexual selves and not only that, it will deepen our connection to the universe. There’s not any deeper connected to reach for than our connection to source. Using our sexual energy properly is a highly advanced spiritual practice. Seeing our sexuality as a spiritual practice is not a mainstream phenomenon. But reaching a deep cosmic connection with source through your own energy body is truly a deep spiritual commitment. It’s not easy to attain as it may seem. The physical aspect of sex is one practice but to actually feel the energy running through the body and feeling your connection to source takes understanding, practice and commitment to one self.

All of the above mentioned are an important practice before we can reach a deeper connection through our sexual energy. In order to connect with our sexual self, it’s important to use the breath, feel the somatic experiences in the body, to connect to the heart, connect to your true nature and have spiritual hygiene, before you can reach this deeper connection with your sexual self.

Final note: you want to use these tools anytime you feel disconnected from yourself, others or from the world at large. Or use them to amplify the connection to yourself since there are always more layers to go and it takes years to deepen this connection. These practices are not a one-time thing and then never do it again. Establishing a deeper connection with yourself takes devotion. It takes daily tuning in with yourself. And the more you get the hang out of it the more you want to do it. The more you will feel love for yourself and the more you create that deep connection with yourself that you are looking for.
